AI in video games.

The hot topic nowadays seems to be AI and ChatGPT, and of course with reasons since it’s by far the most spectacular thing that one can try at the moment and get fascinated by it’s performance. I’ve been playing around with it and even using it to create content and job descriptions. It’s great!.

But what about AI in video games? Is this new era of AI going to impact an industry that has been pushing the boundaries of AI for decades now? Because in case you didn’t know, AI has been present in video games since the beginning of time!

One area where these new AI systems are already being used to great effect is in the creation of non-player characters (NPCs) that are more realistic and responsive to player actions. New tech AI-powered NPCs can make decisions based on the player’s actions and react accordingly, making the game world feel more dynamic and immersive. Contrary to what we had while growing up, there were NPCs that were dull and repetitive.

Another area where AI is expected to have a big impact is in the creation of more realistic and believable game environments. AI-powered algorithms can be used to generate terrain, weather, and other environmental elements in real-time, creating a more immersive and believable gaming experience.

AI is also expected to play a role in enhancing the player’s experience by providing more personalized and tailored gameplay. For example, AI-powered algorithms could be used to analyze player behavior and adjust the game’s difficulty level or provide customized in-game recommendations.

In sports video games, such as Mokens League, AI is already being used to create more realistic gameplay experiences. AI-powered algorithms are used to control the actions and decisions of non-player characters (NPCs) such as opposing team members and referees, making the game world feel more believable and dynamic.

At Mokens League we are thinking of a Player vs AI game-mode that will be similar to what you can find in the world of Chess. Even considering having an AI to analyze past matches and offer you clues with passes you might have missed or chances that you could have created if you’ve done things differently. We like to think of AI as a challenging and learning tool rather than a full recreation of a human player.

I am a personal fan of AI in video games. I’ve always loved the player vs environment (PVE) aspects of gaming as much as player vs player (PVP). Let’s see what the future holds, but one thing is for certain, AI is going to re-shape the world we are living in and the better we understand it, the more prepared we will be for when the Terminator comes! 😀
